Type Fours are known as the Romantic Individualist

I hope you have someone in your life who is a Type 4 because they make the world a more beautiful place. They are focused on the esthetics of life making everything better by using their creative skills and passions. They are also terrific listeners who can sit with you in your pain without trying to fix you or give advice.

Drew Larson of Intervarsity wrote a blog post entitled Reflections from an Enneagram Four: Learning Not to Let Emotions Rule.  Because type 4s feel all of the emotions more than the rest of us, this is an important exercise to remember.

If you listened to the above podcast on The Art of Growth, you heard them mention this book: The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron.  One of my favorite friends who is a Type 4 also recommended it.  It includes some amazing spiritual practices that take you beyond journaling.

Grow:

Since Type 4’s struggle with comparing themselves with others, remember that Comparison Kills.  When you think of envy as the dissatisfaction with who God made you to be, you will have a greater understanding of the lie that is called comparison.  When you feel this rising up inside of you, take a moment to stop and capture it.  Give it over to Christ and ask Him to fill you with His complete satisfaction of you.
